The sheepdog Meg has introduced her master Snib on my homepage. I have not yet told her that I wrote the Mirton Musketeer Mysteries. Of course, like every dog, she likes to think that she is in charge!
A long time ago, when I was very small, my father would tell me tales of his childhood, his friends and his naughty antics. They always made me laugh and smile.
Later, he told the same stories to my children, but with every telling the tales grew taller. These days I tell the same stories to my grandchildren, and yes, the tales continue to grow and contain extra details.
The Mirton Musketeer Mysteries are based on my father’s tall tales of his life in a small village in the Yorkshire Dales in the 1920s.
The character Snib is based on my father, and his friends and family are based on the people that my father knew. But as we all know stories grow and tend to take on a life of their own.
Snib does not know that some of his stories were once told by the fireside in my childhood family home. But if you meet him- shush don’t tell him.
